Lake Five Farm has a unique history that dates back to its origins in the early 1900's as a dairy farm operated by the Sennott family. Eventually in the 1990's, it was transformed into a place of healing and creativity, serving as Bonnie Lynn Acres, a day camp for medically ill and developmentally delayed children. Bonnie Lynn Acres was a free camp that offered children the ability to experience farm life, interact with animals, create arts and crafts, and enjoy Lake Five.
Bonnie Lynn Acres namesake is Bonnie Lynn Mechanic. Bonnie Lynn passed away at the age of twenty after battling a blood disease.
Thanks to a generous donation by her surviving family, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin operates the Bonnie Lynn Celiac Disease Clinic which provides comprehensive celiac disease management to children and their families.
Bonnie Lynn's legacy also lives on in art. Paul Bobrowitz, known his for "Spectacular Sculpture" gallery in Colgate, created a large metal statute in memory of Bonnie Lynn that stood at the center of the farm during its time as a day camp. It was removed by the Mechanics when the farm was sold outside of the family. Then in 2019, the current owners of the farm, who share a connection with the Mechanic and Schlossman families, learned of the history the Mechanics and Schlossmanns share with the farm. Artist, Paul, and the Mechanic Schlossmann family returned the statue to its original standing place, in an emotional remembrance of their sister and the statue stands here in her honor to this day.

Our primary focus is Microgreens, due to their numerous health benefits and endless uses. We aim for a fresh, nutrient rich product. There are various ways to grow Microgreens, with one of the most common being hydroponically with a nutrient solution added to the water. While this method is very effective and produces a large, heavier crop; they lack the nutritional value found in products grown in soil or compost (Microgreen study, Summary). Our Microgreens are grown in farm made compost. We also grow various fruits, vegetables and mushrooms on a small scale, which are sometimes offered for sale.
If you are interested in a Microgreen not currently offered, please reach out as we are actively expanding our varieties.
Please be aware that in order to reduce waste, our Microgreens are grown to order. This also includes L5F gear, meaning anything can be customized further. We always have Microgreens growing, if you have an urgent need please let us know.
Our grow trays are reusable and we hope you'll return them or use yourself! We are glad to compost the tray contents for you once you've finished your tray.
We do not use any herbicides or insecticides with any of our products nor any single use plastics.
